I only receive a few guitars a year from Jim and he is one of the few luthiers in the world that combine the aesthetic and sonic qualities in a fantastic blend of sound and art. I have compared his guitars to many of the top builders in the world and all I can say is that they compare very well to instruments that cost 2 to 3 times as much.
Here are some photos of the last few Frieson guitars I have had. If you think they look great in pictures you would be amazed in person. The detail and execution is superb as are Jim’s wood choices and workmanship. His guitars have what I can only describe as “sparkle”, thick round trebles and big basses with somewhat of an old world sound. Excellent volume as well but what tone! Jim is also a master of finishes and will use French polish, cashew, and nitro cellulose lacquer depending on the woods. His tops are almost always French polished and the back and sides can be lacquer or cashew.
I should be getting one new Frieson sometime this summer. If you are interested in one of Jim’s guitars please contact me.
